New Mexicans: did you know that only about 25% of the roads in your state are paved? Thanks to the dry climate, these roads remain sturdy and intact. But that doesn’t mean that you won’t run into any problems on the road, which is why it’s important to have car insurance that’s there when you need it. With Root, you can get the coverage you need for up to 52% less.
We base rates primarily on how you actually drive, not just on some statistical profile of your age, credit score, marital status, and ZIP code.
Here’s how it works:
Root is disrupting the broken insurance industry by bringing fairness and ease to customers across the Land of Enchantment.
Root’s competitive quotes and simple app prove that car insurance can be easy and affordable for the state’s best drivers—from Albuquerque to Las Cruces, Farmington to Roswell, and all points between (we’re looking at you, Santa Fe).
To legally operate a vehicle in New Mexico, you must carry liability coverage and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (which can be declined in writing). If you’re found driving without the required insurance, you can face suspension of your registration.
Liability coverage helps to pay for property damage or bodily injuries that occur from a car accident you cause. It does not cover harm to you or your family members (that’s what Medical Payments and Personal Injury Protection coverages are for) or your vehicle (but Collision and Comprehensive coverages do). These additional coverages can help you avoid serious expenses in the event of a major accident.
You can always opt for higher limits if you want more coverage.
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage will help pay for your expenses when you've been in a car accident with a driver who doesn’t have car insurance, or whose car insurance amounts won't adequately cover your costs. Insurance companies in New Mexico are required to offer this coverage as part of your policy. However, you can reject this coverage in writing and still be in compliance with car insurance laws.
You can always opt for more coverage if you want.
New Mexico uses an electronic database to monitor the car insurance status of all vehicles registered in the state. It’s your insurer’s responsibility to report your car insurance status into the database. If the database shows that you aren’t insured, you’ll get a warning letter notifying you that you must have your car insured and noted in the database. If you don’t have insurance nor comply with your warning letter, you’ll face suspension of your registration.
