Looking back at 2019
It’s been another big year for us at Root, and it’s all thanks to you. Here are just a few of the highlights that helped make this a year to remember.
Number of miles tracked
That’s Billion—with a “B”
Four billion, five-hundred sixty-six million, four hundred ninety-eight thousand, six hundred and one miles. Phew.
That’s how many miles Root customers drove in 2019—more driving than the entire fleet of UPS delivery drivers, across the entire country, for an entire year. And that's a lot of driving data to improve insurance pricing and make the road a safer place.
Busiest driving month
Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
Sunshine. Sand. And endless inquiries into whether or not you’ve arrived at your destination. With all the road trips, vacations, and days at the beach, July proved to be the busiest driving month of the year.
Best driving state
Back-to-back best drivers
In a state where elk, deer, and antelope outnumber people, it’s no surprise the scenic route comes with slower paces and steadier brakes. For the second year running, drivers in Montana had the highest scores for smooth braking and overall safe driving than any other state.
Riskiest drive time
Risky business
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Except if it’s driving at unsafe times of the night—we watch out for that. Customers in Nevada did more driving during riskier hours than anyone else this year.
Weirdest claim
Hogging the road
Oddest insurance claim of the year? A customer in Oklahoma swerved into a small embankment after a pack of wild hogs ran onto the highway in front of her car. Luckily, she was alright and had Root to help get her ride back in shape. Hakuna matata.
Best driver
What’s in a name?
Let’s ask Peggy. Out of everyone who took the Root test drive this year, customers named Peggy had the highest average score.
Most driving
Miles and miles of magnolias
Root customers in Mississippi (once again) logged most miles this year—averaging over 17,000 miles per driver.
New bling
Savings made (real) simple
Not to brag, but it’s official—we deliver award-winning car insurance. This year, we were proud to win a Real Simple Smart Money Award for saving good drivers hundreds of dollars.
Rolling into 2020
