We’re hiring a Claims Paralegal I in Columbus, OH

Position: We are seeking a Claims Paralegal in Columbus, who will play a critical role in enforcing the fundamental fairness values on which Root was founded. You will assist the Claims Legal team and the Claims leadership team in a variety of duties with the goal of helping Root to think critically about the needs of our customers, and the Claims operation.

Location: This is an in-office position at our Easton location (OH).


  • Responsible for legal research on a variety of property/casualty, claims compliance, and litigation issues assigned by Claims Attorneys and members of Claims Leadership;
  • Provides administrative support for the management of Claims Legal assignments, projects and tracking systems; 
  • Will report directly to the Claims Attorneys and become a vital part of the Claims Legal team;
  • Will accurately research state and federal law on assigned topics and provide clear guidance in a timely manner in both formal and informal, as well as written and verbal formats;
  • Integrates with the Claims Legal team and participates in a wide variety of projects to provide clear and actionable legal research work product and complete administrative support assignments in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with Claims Leadership and business partners


  • Paralegal certificate from an accredited paralegal training program;
  • 3+ years of relevant experience either in the role of an insurance defense practice paralegal or as a paralegal working for a property/casualty insurance company;
  • Demonstrated legal research ability using WestLaw and other sources;
  • Comfortable with new forms of technology in the workplace and the ability to adapt quickly to new areas of the law;
  • Understanding of property and casualty principles preferred, but not required;
  • Demonstrated legal writing ability and talent for translating complex legal concepts into clear and concise terms with actionable deliverables;
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships;
  • Comfortable in an environment with ambiguity and is quickly able to adapt when changes occur;
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively in a matrixed environment;
  • Dedicated sense of professionalism and ethical conduct;
  • Great attention to detail;
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently and effectively prioritize work; and
  • Ability to approach problems with an open mind.
