Position: Root is looking for an experienced compliance leader with a background in insurance compliance or operations to partner with our fastest growing teams to re-enforce the fundamental value on which our company was founded; fairness. As part of the Compliance Team, you’ll engage with the Product, Customer Service, and Engineering teams to be their legal compliance partner and make recommendations for enhanced compliance workflows, processes, and procedures. This role will also be responsible for the performance of business practice audits, monitoring of corrective action plans, coordination of market conduct efforts, and the development of compliance metrics reporting. We’re searching for a critical thinker who is eager to build new processes and enjoys the pursuit of solving complex problems through the creative ambiguity of a fast-paced technology organization.

Reports to: Director of Compliance

Responsibilities:

  • Perform or supervise the performance of audits of business practices and processes to test compliance.
  • Prepare and monitor corrective action plans for compliance deficiencies identified in audits and by other means.  
  • Develop compliance metrics for tracking compliance trends and reporting to management. 
  • Work with Product, Customer Service, Engineering, and other leadership to ensure internal processes and procedures are maintained and followed.  
  • Coordinate market conduct efforts on behalf of the company, working with Legal and other business areas to respond to and effectively represent the interests of the company before, during, and after exams and inquiries.
  • Assist Legal with responses to DOI, BBB, and other company-related complaints by reviewing complaints for compliance trends, identifying issues requiring corrective action, and communicating with Product, Customer Service, Engineering and other business areas on ongoing performance, as well as opportunities for improvement. 
  • Answer compliance-related questions from other parts of the organization as necessary.
  • Assist with company-wide compliance projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 4+ years of prior operations or compliance experience in the insurance industry
  • Prior experience with compliance and market conduct preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with other areas of the business
  • Great attention to detail
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently and effectively prioritize work
