We’re hiring a Treasurer, VP in Columbus, OH

The Role. 
Root is a technology company revolutionizing personal insurance with a pricing model based upon fairness and a modern customer experience. As a high growth company in a heavily regulated industry, Root’s finance team is faced with a unique capital strategy challenge. Root is seeking a Treasurer to bring our team’s passion for disruption and innovation to fruition while leading debt capital strategy, investments, and treasury operations for the leading InsurTech. This leader will bring extensive knowledge of debt strategy in combination with experience managing cash operations in a complex and regulated entity structure. Critical to this role is the ability to build close relationships with business stakeholders, enhance cash flow forecasts, and leverage technology to optimize our cash management. This leader must have a bias toward action and getting things done, as we’ll lean on this person to drive business initiatives that position Root well for the short and long terms.

What you'll do.

  • Develop long-term debt capital strategy in coordination with broader corporate capital strategy inclusive of reinsurance and equity. 
  • Execute debt capital transactions in partnership with internal and external counsel, manage terms to achieve corporate objectives. Manage on-going covenant compliance.
  • Oversee day-to-day cash and investment activities to ensure the company maintains proper liquidity. Work with forecasting and AP teams to develop detailed cash flow forecasts.
  • Develop and execute investment strategy across various portfolios in line with corporate objectives, investment policy, and risk metrics. 
  • Develop beneficial bank and lender relationships while maintaining current relationships to position Root for scale. 
  • Continuously evolve Treasury procedures for maximum efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls. Own all Treasury-related SOX controls. 
  • Perform rigorous analysis and inform finance leadership of key treasury metrics (cash forecast models, fluctuating cash needs, risk, etc). 

What we're looking for.

  • 12+ years of progressive leadership and experience in Treasury or Debt Capital Markets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or another quantitative related field. MBA preferred. 
  • Experience in financial services or other regulated entities preferred. Experience managing risk-based capital requirements. 
  • A creative thinker who is passionate about capital strategy and eager to partner with leading banks and lenders to create innovative solutions.
  • Experience developing and executing large and complex debt transactions. Fluency in loan agreements and other legal documentation. 
  • Ability to foster and maintain key relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners (asset managers, bankers, etc). 
  • Exemplary written, verbal, and presentation skills; can explain ideas and initiatives to a wide variety of audiences effectively. 
  • Demonstrated ability to execute strategy to solve ambiguous and complex problems. 
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams.
