The Role
We’re looking for a highly adaptable, organized, and action-oriented individual who will proactively bring their intellectual curiosity to our Accounts Payable processes. The perfect candidate will be comfortable driving organizational change in a fast-growing company, ensures payment processing aligns with Root’s data needs and leverages technology to continuously enhance efficiency. Root has experienced significant growth in a short period of time. Our company has grown from 60 to over 450 people in roughly a year and has raised $178M in Venture Capital. Given this rate of scale, the most successful candidate will be able to step into our fast-paced environment in order to lead our growing accounts payable needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Payable Function
  • Ensures procedures are followed and controls maintained
  • Ensures all processes are properly documented and provides training and ongoing communication to support process adherence
  • Validates procedures are in place to ensure accurate payments to vendors on a timely basis.
  • Works upstream to ensure business stakeholders are following company procedures for activities that impact the ability to pay invoices and expense reports
  • Leads execution of processes to ensure invoices and expense reports are charged to the appropriate accounts
  • Reinforces process controls that minimize the ability to make duplicate payments
  • Investigates questions or issues and other exceptions communicated from vendors and internal business partners
  • Manages unclaimed funds processes and procedures
  • Engages staff to develop a clear vision on performance expectations for the company
  • Executes payments in various systems (Mineral Tree, NetSuite, Expensify, etc.) and develops their staff to do the same
  • Motivates employees to perform efficiently while creating a positive work environment
  • Analysis and reconciliations for assigned accounts
  • Budget adherence
  • Special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, or related field.
  • Experience 8+ years preferred, particularly in an Account Payable leadership role
  • Has the technical knowledge to elicit respect from business stakeholders –
  • strong credibility
  • Proficiency with AP digital end-to-end solutions
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office products, data analytic tools
  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience driving multiple projects simultaneously
  • Easily builds collaborative working relationships
  • Approaches problems with an open mind
  • Curious in nature
  • Great attention to detail
  • Self-starter, with strong interpersonal, teamwork, and partnering skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accounts Payable Certifications: Certified Accounts Payable Associate (CAPA), Certified Accounts Payable Professional (CAPP), or other certification.
  • Cost allocation knowledge
