The role of Information Security in this dynamic environment is to enable a secure transformative process.  The day to day operations and monitoring of security controls is the primary responsibility of the Information Security Analyst.

We divide the areas of responsibility for engineers into three major areas:
Technical: The skills and knowledge that make up an engineer’s basic problem-solving toolbox.
Planning and Execution: The ability to plan and execute assigned work beyond basic technical solutions.
Working with Others: The ability to work effectively with other engineers and people in other functions.

What we look for in an Information Security Analyst:

Technical Skills

  • A basic understanding of technologies used to secure an enterprise, including some familiarity with cloud security
  • A basic understanding in several areas of Information Security, such as Network Security, Endpoint Security, Vulnerability Management, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of compliance standards and laws (PCI, HIPAA, etc)
  • Experience documenting and monitoring systems, as well as following detailed procedures
  • Ability to learn and move quickly
  • Experience in: Information Security, Infrastructure Technology, or Software Development

Working with Others

  • Ability to execute tasks as assigned on large projects, offer feedback and solutions to aid in project success
  • Complete operational security tasks as assigned or based on scheduling with little supervision
  • Thinks critically about work to identify trends, inform security requirements, and improve the overall Root Insurance security posture
  • Ability to be the “first line of defense” on a Security Incident Response Team

Scope of Impact: Team/Initiative/Company

  • The Information Security Team is set to impact Root Insurance in a very positive way in 2019, and beyond
  • Compliance driven initiatives will define projects in Information Security, allowing significant gains to be made quickly, with full organizational support
  • Develop a security operations design for the organization, deriving activities and methodologies to reduce risk within Root Insurance
