We’re hiring an Accounting Manager in Columbus, OH

The Position.
Root is looking for a Certified Public Accountant with a strong background in corporate accounting and streamlining business processes to lead daily accounting operations. As the Accounting Manager, you’ll partner with FP&A, own the continuous efficiency improvements of the close and reporting processes through automation, work cross-functionally with Engineering to develop and enhance Root’s internal systems, take ownership in the management of key controls, and be involved in supporting major projects that impact the entire accounting organization. The right candidate should expect to leverage current accounting skills, but also is enthusiastic about learning quickly and adding value to current and future processes.

What you’ll be doing.

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and yearly accounting close processes, with an emphasis on driving improved business processes supported by efficient internal systems and system enhancements to continuously improve its quality and efficiency
  • Partner with and create cross-functional business unit relationships
  • Lead critical accounting projects, including the implementation of new system logics or enhancements and support new product launches
  • Build new and enhance existing processes and controls
  • Partner with Internal Controls Team to implement SOX/MAR internal controls policies
  • Identify opportunities for automation to improve the speed and efficiency of the monthly close
  • Support FP&A team with financial models, reporting, and ad-hoc analysis as necessary
  • Undertake special projects to support strategic business initiatives as needed

What we’re looking for.

  • 7+ years of experience in Accounting (including Big 4 or large regional public accounting experience preferred) and at least 2 years of prior management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university; active CPA are required
  • A drive to understand the core issues and  develop & implement appropriate solutions
  • Proven ability to succeed in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Excellent time and self-management skills, ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, develop and grow the existing team as well as work to develop/maintain strong cross-functional relationships
  • Ability to develop relationships with diverse groups and various levels of financial and operating personnel
  • Ability to navigate through ambiguity, direct and coordinate multiple project assignments simultaneously, accept ownership and accountability for projects, and deliver on commitments 
  • Ability to propose and implement practical, efficient and effective solutions to accounting issues
  • Ability to operate independently and as part of a larger functional team
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
