The Position.

Root is taking the outdated, $250-billion insurance industry and shaking up everything about it. Using telematics and a passion for customer experience, we’re building one of the country’s fastest-growing tech companies. And we're just getting started. We are hiring a Director of Product Management to develop and lead our Growth organization’s efforts to build a world-class onboarding experience for our customers.

This product leader will bring people management experience in product and a breadth of experience setting and delivering a vision for web and mobile consumer experiences. They will define and manage the Root customer experience for account creation and onboarding, test drive and auto policy bind; build the team that will identify, measure and address the relevant customer problems across these areas and drive our rate of customer acquisition; measure and provide standardized reporting on the product metrics that define a successful customer experience, and their impact on business outputs; establish a centralized operating process that enables any team (e.g. pricing, retention, etc.) to efficiently ship experience changes to the user flows owned by their team, without jeopardizing the overall customer experience.

What you’ll be doing 
You will hire, support, and grow a talented team of product managers tasked with defining and building Root’s onboarding experience. You will set a customer-focused and innovative vision for Root’s insurance onboarding experience. Understanding insurance is a difficult problem, and engaging with a new insurance company can be a daunting experience. Root’s vision is to deconstruct and rebuild this experience from scratch, unencumbered by the historical baggage of “how things have always been.” You will set the vision for how customers get started with root, from visiting our website and providing the necessary profile information for a quote, through taking our test drive, understanding their price and selecting the insurance that is right for them. You’ll define the ways in which we evaluate and measure performance of our onboarding process, drive the org-wide narrative for our performance and vision, and leverage your thought leadership in this space to influence and drive this vision into fruition across the organization.

The ideal candidate has an experimentation and learning mindset, strong analytical skill set, and well-honed product instincts to identify opportunities and deliver solutions that unlock customer value. You have a consistent track record of successfully taking end-to-end ownership and delivering results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to lead effectively across functions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • BA/BS in a STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics) field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years product management experience in a mobile, marketing, or growth-focused role managing a technology product.
  • 3+ years people management experience in a product management or related capacity.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use data and metrics to validate assumptions, recommendations, and decisions.
  • Experience driving roadmap strategy and prioritization, and end-to-end product delivery.
  • Experience collaborating with and contributing to engineering discussions around technology strategy and tradeoffs related to a product.
