Position: As Claims Trainer, you’ll be asked to push the boundaries of what’s required and to think critically to identify the learning needs of our claims team and how to best align training with our company culture.  By collecting information from claims leadership and other subject matter experts, you’ll make recommendations for solutions to develop the skills of our claims associates and iterate towards peak performance. You’ll be helping to build and enhance an entirely new claims experience from the ground up and this role is vital to Root’s success as we continue to rapidly grow. Our goal is to leverage technology, data, and a team of highly talented people to build a claims experience that is recognized as number 1 in the industry.


  • Creates and maintains training materials for Root Claim Adjusters in line with Root standards and strategies
  • Conducts all levels of system training for all Claims positions, including both the Root claims management system as well as external vendor systems used within the course of the job
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with claims leadership and business partners to identify training needs and create learning solutions
  • Researches, analyzes and understands information to develop appropriate learning solutions for the audience
  • Develops objectives designed to close learning gaps and address learning needs
  • Ensures that all training materials are updated in a timely fashion and conform to any compliance requirements that may be applicable
  • Works with other training staff to complete the new-hire checklist and maintain onboarding agenda 
  • Engages in learning opportunities to build knowledge of system updates both internally and externally 
  • Identifies  innovative eLearning solutions designed to engage multiple levels of learners
  • Aligns proper learning methodology based on the needs of the trainee
  • Writes job-aids, manuals, and assessments, partnering with internal resources and SMEs
  • Designs knowledge check questions, assessments, role plays/scenarios, and other interactions/activities that assess the learner’s mastery of the content according to the stated learning objectives.
  • Ensures learning is supported with appropriate learning tools such as handouts, participant guides, quick reference cards or job aids


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Familiarity with Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline or other e-learning development software and authoring applications
  • At least 1-year experience in various methods of training design including e-Learning, virtual classroom, podcast, video, and classroom based learning
  • At least 1-year experience using LMS to administer training and guide learning paths, both virtually and in-person
  • At least one year’s successful experience in a formal training role at a Personal Auto insurance carrier, where the candidate was directly responsible for creating training materials, conducting training sessions in a classroom setting, and evaluating whether students passed all required quizzes, tests and/or exams
  • Demonstrated learning and development of functional expertise – with a deep understanding of instructional design and adult learning theories
  • Ability to develop innovative learning solutions that support business results
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate, analyze, and interpret technical information
  • Strategic thinker - ability to overcome obstacles; take an organized and logical approach to thinking through problems and complex issues
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently and effectively prioritize work
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to execute on plans, drives for results and takes accountability for outcomes
  • Awareness of company culture and ability to reflect that in training style
  • Familiarity with claims best practices required
  • Curious in nature
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and quickly adapt when changes occur
  • Ability to approach problems with an open mind
