We’re hiring a Claims Trainer in Columbus, OH

The role: As a Claims Trainer, you’ll play a critical role in enforcing the fundamental fairness values on which our company was founded.  You’ll be asked to push the boundaries of what’s required and to think critically as to what our customers want and to how that best aligns with developing and training our staff.  By collecting information, making recommendations for claims processes to iterate towards automation and further develop our underwriting app features, you’ll be helping to build and enhance an entirely new insurance experience from the ground up. This role is vital to Root’s success as we continue to rapidly grow and is largely responsible for our bottom line.

Major Objectives:

  • Creates and continually improves training materials for Root Claim Examiners
  • Conducts new-hire training for all Claims positions, excluding Auto Damage training
  • Supervises new-hire classes during their initial training period
  • Creates state-specific training materials for state licensing exams, and conducts special training sessions that ensures a high pass rate on state licensing exams
  • Oversees and maintains a licensing database for all licensed Claim employees
  • Works with vendors, partners and industry groups to develop and conduct quarterly and annual training focusing on industry trends
  • Develops relationships with existing and potential third-party partners and vendors involved in the claim handling process
  • Identifies areas of improvement for all partners and vendors involved in the property, casualty and liability domains
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with claims leadership, business partners, and outside vendors
  • Ensures that all training materials are updated in a timely fashion and conform to all state guidelines and requirements
  • Conducts annual fraud training and annual Fair Claims Act training
  • Diligently documents the completion of training modules across the Claims department, and maintains a training portfolio for every Claims employee
  • Engages in learning opportunities to build knowledge of industry trends and potential partnerships

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 3+ years of successful claim handling experience in Personal Auto, where candidate was directly responsible for investigating coverage, making liability decisions, securing recorded statements, and negotiating bodily injury settlements
  • At least one year’s successful experience in a formal training role at a Personal Auto insurance carrier, where candidate was directly responsible for creating training materials, conducting training sessions in a classroom setting, and evaluating whether students passed all required quizzes, tests and/or exams
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively in a matrixed environment
  • High sense of professionalism while remaining empathetic
  • Familiarity with claims best practices required
  • Curious in nature
  • Great attention to detail
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently and effectively prioritize work
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and quickly adapt when changes occur
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to approach problems with an open mind
