We’re hiring a Claims Manager - PIP/MPC in Columbus, OH

The role: As a Claims Manager over PIP/MPC, you’ll play a critical role in enforcing the fundamental fairness values on which our company was founded..  You’ll be asked to push the boundaries of what’s required and to think critically as to what our customers want and to how that best aligns with our product. By collecting information, making recommendations for claims processes to iterate towards automation and further develop our app features, you’ll be helping to build and enhance an entirely new insurance experience from the ground up. This role is vital to Root’s success as we continue to rapidly grow and is largely responsible for our bottom line.


  • Supervises a team of Claims Adjusters - PIP/MPC  who work together to: Review claims/bills and work with vendor for proper handling of 1st party injuries; Review and approve payments over examiner authority; and Review supplemental requests for additional reviews of injury claims
  • Engages in learning opportunities to build knowledge of personal lines claims, court decisions impacting the claims function, current guidelines in claims function, and policy changes and modifications
  • Establishes the infrastructure necessary to detect, investigate and prevent violations of company’s claim handling guidelines, both internally and externally
  • Assesses, develops, and implements internal controls associated with claims payments and quality of file handling
  • Provides technical claims recommendations in an effort to improve case outcomes
  • Own Root Insurance’s relationship between our bill review vendor and act as the main contact for this vendor
  • Provides input for continuous development of claims guidelines and best practices
  • Recommends potential product developments and process improvements
  • Recruits, retains and develops a highly motivated and accountable team of experienced and developing claim property professionals
  • Always advocates for talent and builds capabilities to ensure strong leadership and technical talent bench strength

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • 2+ years of successful experience directly managing a team of 1st party PIP and/or MPC handlers 
  • Experience with 1st party PIP and/or MPC as a claim handler.
  • Texas insurance license, AIC designation, or CPCU designation preferred
  • Strong understanding and application of laws, statutes, and regulations specific to PIP/MPC handling
  • Strong technical understanding of 1st party injury claim process
  • Ability to work in a partnership with third-party administrator
  • High sense of professionalism while remaining empathetic
  • Curious in nature
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to approach problems with an open mind
