We’re hiring an Internal Communications Manager in Columbus, OH

The position.
Root is looking for a strong writer to create, execute, and manage the communication strategy for the People team and across the organization. As the Internal Communications Manager, you will help shape the internal voice of Root, while ensuring to preserve our scrappy culture of enabling team members to tackle tough challenges and move fast. You will partner with the Chief People Officer and leadership to ensure team members have the information they need to be successful and engaged. The right candidate is an assertive self-starter, who is curious to find opportunities that others might not see, highly collaborative, and has a passion for keeping people informed, connected, and inspired.

What you’ll be doing.

  • Lead internal communications for all People team initiatives to ensure team members have the information they need to be successful.
  • Build the communication strategy for multiple People team objectives, spanning multiple audiences.
  • Partner with CPO to design and build a People team communications strategy. Including, but not limited to: monthly all-hands, content calendar, intra-team communications, and ghostwriting. 
  • Design content for Root’s learning program: Learn and Grow at Root. 
  • Create original content (lots of brainstorming, lots of writing, lots of editing) to inform, engage, and educate Root team members across the country.
  • Coordinate with content contributors from teams across the company to conceive and execute internal communication content and campaigns, and develop a scalable content management process.
  • Partner with our design team to develop content for internal campaigns, swag, etc.
  • Consistently scrub content across the intranet for consistency, style, and grammar. 
  • Develop content for employee awareness and engagement (internal blogs, etc.). 
  • Support internal communications needs for various company-wide messaging and quarterly company All-hands. 
  • Identify and drive improvement opportunities that support our team member’s experience.

What we’re looking for.

  • BA/BS degree
  • A minimum of four years of relevant work experience, including experience with writing and/or copy editing.
  • Experience planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing simultaneous projects and activities.Strong writing skills, copy-editing experience, and an appreciation for the Oxford comma.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and adapt quickly to change.
  • A willingness to invent and learn – you are not afraid to put an idea into action, measure its success, and apply learnings to future decisions.
  • Must be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and pivot between responsibilities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
