We’re hiring a Senior Manual QA Specialist in Columbus, OH

The engineering team at Root strives to be one of the most transformative engineering teams ever. Through our mobile app, Web app, and public facing website, we bring fair, affordable insurance to customers in 25 states (and growing). 

We’ve built Root through the strength of our mobile app, but as Root has grown, so too has the breadth and complexity of our work. We’re looking for an experienced Quality Assurance professional to join our QA team. You will work closely with our Quality Assurance Lead, QA Specialists, and engineering teams to ensure the functionality of our mobile app, Web app, and other internal and public facing software and websites. 

Things that you’ll be working on:

New Features
--Attend kickoff meetings with engineering and product leads for new app and web features
--Gather and define requirements 
--Write and execute test cases 
--Perform exploratory testing of new features to identify edge case bugs
Web Testing
--Test Root product websites against standard Web best practices
--Cross browser testing in supported Web and mobile browsers
--Functional testing of all Web features
Bug Reporting
--Document clear steps for bug reproduction
--Triage bug reports to appropriate teams
--Keep track of bug life cycle and verify bug fixes
--Help maintain QA testing documentation 
--Help maintain app functionality documentation


  • Ability to gather functional requirements and distill them into executable test plans
  • Ability to lead the quality assurance efforts of new features from development kickoff through release
  • Experience with bug tracking or project management software
  • Experience working in both iOS and Android platforms
  • Experience testing against Web best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to quality

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience manually testing software applications
  • Familiarity with agile workflows
  • Basic command-line proficiency
  • Familiarity with Web Accessibility best practices and testing
