We’re hiring a Manager, Corporate FP&A (Forecasting) in Columbus, OH

The position. 
Root is looking for a finance manager with expertise in corporate finance, consumer unit economics, and complex financial modeling. Our financial model forecasts the expected business results for the complex entity structure within Root in financial statement format. The lifetime value model evaluates unit economics to drive customer acquisition strategies. The right person will be able to leverage their exceptional quantitative skills to build and maintain a robust forecast and own our financial forecasting process to deliver a trusted plan for the organization. Executive level communication skills are a must when explaining financial model details and methodology to c-level leadership. As a Manager, you will also be accountable for group deliverables along with coaching and development of team members.

What we’re looking for.

  • 4-7 years of progressive responsibility and experience in quantitative or financial analysis, including experience in building and leading successful teams
  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business or a related quantitative field required. Graduate work or professional certification in finance, statistics, accounting or business desirable.
  • Highly analytical, with proven ability in data-intensive financial analysis backed by strong financial modeling skills in Excel, experience maintaining complex driver-based financial forecasts with fully integrated financial statements for corporate entities or otherwise complex business structure. 
  • Proficiency with financial statement analysis and forecasting, including a basic understanding of GAAP and Statutory Accounting principles and the ability to communicate with experts. 
  • Self-starter with a high degree of responsibility and ownership and a “get things done” mentality.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Problem solver with natural intellectual curiosity, open-mindedness, and comfort with ambiguity. 
  • Expert knowledge of enterprise-class planning tools (e.g. Oracle PBCS, Anaplan, SAP) is required. Experience writing SQL queries and an understanding of data warehouse structures is a plus.

What you'll be doing.

  • Provide overall forecasting and modeling leadership including model design, managing and owning all inputs and outputs, and presenting and defending results to leadership. 
  • Deeply understand, maintain, and improve complex financial models using GAAP and STAT modeling to determine capital needs and evaluate unit economics, while maintaining and performing variance analysis to explain changes.
  • Develop and execute reproducible scenario and sensitivity analyses on key drivers of growth, profit, and capital to inform decision-making and communicate results in presentations for executive and investor audiences.
  • Engage with business leaders, engineering and finance systems teams to ensure data integrity and automate processes across multiple systems (e.g. Oracle Smartview/PBCS, internal Data Warehouse, visualization tools) for monthly updates.
  • Improve confidence in forecasted metrics through the relentless pursuit of errors, implementation of tests and checks, and continuous dialogue with business experts.
  • Interface with business unit leaders to develop, pressure test, and maintain key forecast assumptions.
  • Understand and model reinsurance contracts, evaluate new reinsurance structures, and improve accuracy of forecasted reinsurance cash flows.
  • Foster productive relationships with accounting counterparts to evaluate and implement evolving accounting policies into the forecasting process.
  • Support evolving capital strategy through scenario testing and implementation of complex legal entity structures and associated financial statements into models.
  • Lead a team of finance analyst(s) responsible for operational improvements across forecasting processes through coaching, mentoring, and ongoing training and development.
  • Support management and investor relations requests with clear explanations of drivers and changes, telling the complete story.
