We’re hiring an Auto Damage Supervisor in Phoenix, AZ

The Role: As a Claims Auto Damage Supervisor, you’ll play a critical role in enforcing the fundamental fairness values on which our company was founded.  You’ll be asked to push the boundaries of what’s required and to think critically as to what our customers want and to how that best aligns with our product.  By collecting information, making recommendations for claims processes to iterate towards automation and further develop our app features, you’ll be helping to build and enhance an entirely new insurance experience from the ground up. This role is vital to Root’s success as we continue to rapidly grow and is largely responsible for our bottom line.

This is a full-time, remote position with the expectation that you will transition to work full-time at a physical office in Phoenix spring/summer 2019. Expected working hours will be Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 6:00pm MST.


  • Supervises a team of Auto Damage Appraisers who work together to write repair estimates, negotiate/settle total loss situations, prepares salvage vehicles, coordinate rental reimbursements, and consistently make prompt and courteous contact with every customer
  • Recommends potential product developments and process improvements
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with customers, peers, vendors and managers
  • Engages in learning opportunities to build knowledge of personal auto claims, court decisions impacting the claims function, current guidelines in claims function, and policy changes
  • Establishes the infrastructure necessary to detect, investigate and prevent violations of company’s claim handling guidelines, both internally and externally
  • Assesses, develops, and implements internal controls associated with claims payments and quality of file handling
  • Recruits, retains and develops a highly motivated and accountable team
  • Always advocates for talent and builds capabilities to ensure strong leadership and technical talent
  • Provides expertise to team in reviewing, researching, investigating, negotiating, processing and adjusting claims

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 3+ years of successful experience directly managing a team of Auto Damage professionals who were responsible for writing estimates, approving supplements, coordinating rental extensions, and negotiating final settlement of total losses.
  • Strong experience using CCC software in writing estimates, selecting parts, handling supplements and negotiating total losses
  • Experience handling both drive-in appointments and field inspections
  • Ability to obtain and maintain insurance licenses in several states within three months
  • Strong technical understanding of repair process and alternative parts options
  • High sense of professionalism while remaining empathetic
  • Familiarity with claims best practices required
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to approach problems with an open mind
