We’re hiring an Accounting Research & Policy Manager in Columbus, OH

We’re looking for the next addition to the Root Accounting Team: a high-energy, action-oriented individual that is enthusiastic about working with senior management to influence decision making and set direction. The ideal candidate has experience researching, documenting, and making recommendations on a wide range of financial accounting topics, and uses technology and data analytic skills to enhance and improve the delivery of job responsibilities. This individual will benefit from broad exposure to multiple areas of Accounting/Finance while working with a highly experienced team. Our goal in Accounting is to optimize automation to ensure our team is thinking more strategically about the business rather than focusing on repeatable tasks.  

Reports to: Chief Accounting Officer

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain accounting policies manual to ensure consistency and compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles
  • Research, evaluate and document technical implications for complex accounting issues
  • Lead the implementation of new accounting standards, including assessment of financial and operational impact on the organization
  • Assist in the preparation of share-based compensation expense reporting framework, including preparation of the monthly journal entries
  • Collaborate with and provide accounting consultation advice to business partners

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • Active CPA license required 5 - 7 years of work experience in a big four accounting firm or significant accounting policy-setting organization or corporate accounting experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to research and document new accounting guidance and the accounting treatment of complex, significant and/or unusual transactions
  • Ability to work with senior management, influence decision making and set direction
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience in SEC reporting and working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, accounting research, and data analytic tools
  • Approaches problems with an open mind
  • Great attention to detail and sense of ownership
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal, teamwork, and partnering skills
  • Effective writing, presentation and communication skills
