Progress: We’ve been in business now for four years. In those four years, we have become the fastest growing auto insurance company, on a % growth in premium basis. Our most recent round of funding valued us at $1B and brought our total VC funding to $178M. In the last year and a half, we have grown our team from 60 to 650.

Reports to: VP of People

The position: We're a small recruiting team of 12 that has hired over 550 people in the past 18 months. Things are going exceptionally well for us so far. Our decision to hire for this position is a future-focused one. If things continue to go well for the business, our hiring needs will continue to grow in scale and complexity. Given that this is a future-focused opening and one of such importance, we plan to be extremely patient in our search for the right candidate.

We are seeking a creative, disciplined, and strategic leader to join our People Team as the VP of Recruiting. Our team of 12 recruiters is split across 3 managers and each group supports different functions. Those three managers will report to the VP of Recruiting.

We view recruiting as a specific type of marketing and believe each role should have a strategy that is a blend of best practices and unique initiatives. We think that recruiting is done best by those who are intimately aware of the needs of each team and the business as a whole; which means that each role has a unique process and approach. The best candidates apply a blend of design thinking, marketing, data analytics, and strategy in their problem-solving.

The VP of Recruiting will:

  • Empower and elevate the existing team
  • Utilize their broader scope to ensure alignment between each team's unique initiatives
  • Act as a thought partner cross-functionally and with the current recruiting team to solve Root's current and future talent acquisition problems
  • Understand the needs of the business, and work with leaders of each function to create a dynamic and scalable yearly hiring roadmap
  • Lead Executive-level recruiting
  • Keen focus on protecting the Candidate Experience as we’re rapidly scaling and recruiting across multiple locations and offices

  • Collaborative - collaborate and lead large cross-departmental projects/initiatives
  • Communicating - demonstrated excellent communication/presentation skills to all levels of the organization
  • Leading - proven ability to manage, mentor and develop a team of recruiters
  • Strategy - comprehensive knowledge of current HR/talent, and the ability to think outside of what’s been done before to come up with the best solution
  • Adaptability - ability to learn/flex and adapt to changing business needs
  • Divergent thinking - creative problem solving, ability to know the environment, and effectively use company resources to draw conclusions
  • Iterating - Experience building or executing iterative hiring processes at high growth tech companies is a plus
